Eligible employment status
| Degree requirement |
| A full bachelor’s degree in any subject Or If applying to the Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway, an Early Years related Level 5 foundation degree that must be ‘topped up’ to a full bachelor’s degree before EYPS assessment is due. Other Level 6 qualifications that are not full degrees are not acceptable to meet the degree requirement. |
| GCSE requirements |
| At least Grade C in GCSE Maths and English We are unable to accept Literacy or Numeracy Level 2 qualifications to meet this requirement as, although set at a similar level, they don’t cover the same breadth of the subject. We do accept GCSE equivalency tests through www.equivalencytesting.com. Please check with us before arranging any other equivalency test to ensure we can accept it. If you are unable to find your GCSE certificates, you will either need to request duplicates from the relevant exam board or arrange a GCSE equivalency test. |
| Enhanced CRB check |
| We must carry out our own CRB enhanced disclosure checks for all candidates, so will send out the relevant forms after receiving your application. There will be a charge for this. Any offers of places are dependent on receipt of a satisfactory disclosure that shows candidates do not have a criminal background that might prevent them from working with children and have not previously been excluded from working with children. |
| Effective reading & communication skills |
| Candidates must be able to demonstrate that they are able to read effectively and communicate clearly and accurately in English to a standard equivalent to Level C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Self-assessment forms can be downloaded from this webpage. |
| Right to study and work in the UK |

All funded candidates must be eligible to study and work in the UK for the duration of their EYPS pathway |
| Employment status |
| If applying to either of the funded practitioner pathways, you must be working within an eligible setting: • A setting on the Early Years Register • A nursery school • An independent school that delivers the Early Years Foundation Stage • Maintained setting that delivers the Early Years Foundation Stage ie. a nursery school or maintained school with a reception class Those working in advisory or academic roles wishing to gain EYPS for CPD purposes rather than to enter the practitioner workforce are not eligible for funded places, so would need to self-fund. |
How to apply for EYPS training
You'll need to complete our application form fully and send it to us along with copies of your degree, maths and English certificates.

email, post it to our Bristol office, or fax it to 0117 315 0427.
The selection process
Following the submission of an application form, suitable applicants who meet the main course entry requirements will be invited to interview and will need to present original copies of their certificates. During this interview we will discuss your training needs and check your suitability for the course. A final selection will be made once all recruitment stages are complete.
Any missing information or evidence of qualifications will delay the processing of your application and may result in your place being released.
