EYPS Training Pathways
Tribal delivers EYPS training from a number of locations within our regions and we are looking to add to these in the future:
- Brixton (International House/Stockwell Children's Centre)
- Carshalton (Carshalton College)
- Croydon (Croydon College)
- Dartford, Kent (Amandre Wilson College)
- Enfield (Enfield Professional Development Centre)
- Kensington (Isaac Newton Centre)
- Newham College of Further Education, East Ham
- Wandsworth (The Professional Centre, Tooting)
Please take a look at our EYPS training venue maps. Please note that delivery at each of these venues is dependent on minimum class numbers being met, we're not able to guarantee that training will be delivered from your preferred location at each intake.
(The full-time
Graduate Entry Pathway is currently only delivered from our Dartford and Newham venues.)
Our courses are highly flexible and completely customisable and can be delivered either at one of our partnership colleges/institutions or, for suitable candidates through supported distance and on-line learning.
EYPS pathways
Whether you’re a graduate looking to embark on a rewarding career in early years or already have considerable experience in the sector, there’s an EYPS training pathway designed with you in mind.
The 'practitioner' pathways are part-time pathways for candidates already working in eligible early years settings.
The 'entry' pathways are for applicants with very limited or no experience of working in early years, so are open to new graduates or those considering a change of career.
Graduate Practitioner Pathway (GPP): 6 months part-time
- one or two whole days training per month on average
This pathway is for experienced graduate practitioners who are already close to being able to evidence all 39 EYPS Standards and have experience of leading and supporting others. It's also suitable for those who may be very experienced with one or two of the age groups, but not all of them. The course will be customised to top up your knowledge base where needed.
Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway (UGP): 12 months part-time
- one or two whole days training per month on average
This pathway is open to those who have a Level 5 Foundation degree in early years and are enrolled on a top-up course, so will be working towards a bachelor’s degree alongside EYPS training. We're currently working in partnership with Croydon College to offer integrated top-up and EYPS training to their foundation degree students.
This pathway is also open to graduate practitioners who need more time than the GPP offers to gain additional knowledge and experience before going through EYPS assessment.
Graduate Entry Pathway (GEP): 12 months full-time
- one whole day of training per week
- minimum three whole days per week in work placement (minimum 90 placement days overall)
- at least one day per week commited to study and assignments
This pathway is open to graduates with typically very little or no experience of working in early years settings, who are not in fulltime employment. This is an intensive course that requires candidates’ full commitment.
You will need to gain placement experience within at least two different early years settings and must complete a minimum of 90 whole placement days in total. You can identify your own local placement, but its suitability must be checked by our placement coordinators before you start attending. We'll recommend the most appropriate training pathway for you following a one-to-one interview but, to get an initial indication of the pathway that may suit you best, you can download and complete this self-evaluation form. This page is included in our application form. From January 2012 there will only be a limited number of fully funded places available for each intake. These will be allocated as a priority to successful applicants who meet our allocation criteria. Once our available funded places have been allocated, any candidates wishing to begin EYPS training will need to self-fund. We'll outline details of fees and payment plans soon, so please check back for more information.
How do I know which pathway is right for me?
Course fees and funding
Please note that candidates can only be funded for a pathway once, so if you have previously completed assessment and been awarded a 'not met' outcome, you would need to
self-fund if you wish to repeat training.
Supply cover funding and bursaries
For funded candidates on practitioner pathways, a set amount of supply cover funding can also be claimed. This is to reimburse settings for the cost of having an employee away from work to attend EYPS training or to gain additional experience outside their usual setting if required. Childminders are also able to claim for loss of earnings on training days. Settings must provide invoices to claim these supply costs.
Graduate Practitioner Pathway (6 months): up to £800 can be claimed for supply cover
Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway (12 months): up to £3200 can be claimed for supply cover
Graduate Entry Pathway (12 months): £3500 bursary paid directly to the candidate.
